So, I have conducted an experiment using a type of coffee that is served in a very large chain across the nation called Starbucks.  I wanted to know what the flavor difference was from buying the coffee that is made in their store and brewing my own at home with three different home coffee makers.  Here are the results that I came up with.

I used a cheap coffee machine that I got at Walmart for $14.97, another one that I borrowed from a friend and he said he spend $89.97 on it (it was a Black and Decker), and I also used the free coffee maker I received for purchasing some coffee from Gevalia online.  On top of brewing the coffee in all three machines I got a 16 ounce coffee of the same flavor from Starbucks.  This was all done with the exact same flavor and type of coffee in each machine.

The first one of the home coffee makers, the cheap one, it took me two tries to get any coffee because it got clogged the first time.  Once I was able to get a full cup of coffee from this machine it was very watery and tasted nothing like the coffee that I purchased at Starbucks.

The second machine, which was borrowed from a friend, but nearly new, I did not have any issues brewing the coffee.  I tasted it and, then tasted what I purchased from Starbucks and they were very close in comparison.  The coffee from Starbucks was a little richer, however.

The last machine, which was free when I bought $20 worth of coffee from Gevalia, I also had on issues with when I brewed the coffee.  It actually produced the hottest coffee of the three and the flavor was nearly dead on.  It was like actually getting the coffee from Starbucks.  This is just proof that the machine makes a difference, but you don’t always have to spend a fortune for a great machine.
